How to Keep Your Sourdough Starter Strong in the Heat

Summer heat can make your sourdough starter feel unpredictable—but it’s actually just more active.

You may notice:

  • Faster rise and fall

  • Stronger smell

  • More frequent feeding needed

To keep it balanced:
✔ Feed more frequently (every 12–24 hours)
✔ Store in a slightly cooler spot if needed
✔ Don’t let it sit too long after peak

A well-maintained starter makes everything else easier.

🌾 This is one of the first things we help troubleshoot in class so you can feel confident from the start.
